How to Take Care of a Hot Tub

Caring for the water in a hot tub is a bit different from maintaining pool water. The main challenge is the warm water – above 30°C – and the small volume of water. This makes water spoilage easier and faster than in a standard pool.

We also recommend cleaning the pipes with a hot tub pipe cleaner to prevent bacteria and algae from continuously contaminating the water from the pipes.

Chlorine Products for Hot Tubs

In a hot tub, we can use products based on active chlorine. However, at very high water temperatures, excessive chlorine release may occur, causing eye irritation and a chlorine smell. This issue is greatly reduced by heating the water before use and changing the hot tub water every few months.

Non-chlorine Chemicals for Hot Tubs

It is possible to use oxygen-based products in hot tubs. Oxygen does not irritate the eyes or skin, but its effectiveness is slightly lower than that of chlorine.

You can either pour liquid oxygen into the water or use oxygen tablets with an activator.

For hot tubs, we offer special smaller packages of Oxy AG 5 liters. To achieve the best results, it is necessary to clean the hot tub water with superchlorination several times per season (once every two months). Double the standard dose of chlorine shock. This will bind all impurities, and the next day, you can return to regular dosing. This process will help prevent the formation of a slimy layer on the walls of the hot tub.

Oxygen Tablets for Hot Tubs

Oxygen tablets are an alternative to liquid oxygen products. You can either use multi-component oxygen tablets, which contain powdered peroxide along with an algaecide, or you can use tablets with only peroxide and add an oxygen activator, which works as an algaecide.

To remove unwanted foam in hot tubs, use an anti-foaming agent.
